You really don't need to read all of this!

This is me rambling and thinking out loud, me showing how incapable I am at making decisions, me trying to be funny and failing and generating laughs just from my ramblingness...beware of sudden subject changes...I write as I think...

The Winds of October

Yeah, I know it's been months since I've written here, but it's more fun when others write so I gave up. My summer ended well, I guess. I volunteered at the Fort at Number Four and got to wear period clothing and learn historical facts. That was really cool! As someone interested in archaeology, I enjoy the day to day parts of history more than dates of who conquered whom, and when. I got to see how the windows opened and shut, and how you move a very hot and boiling cauldron of water to a different trammel (the hook things hanging over the hearth.) School has been good. I'm really behind in all of my reading, but right now I'm enjoying my Logic take home because it's actually making me think! I can spend hours working on it and have so much fun! (This is not sarcasm.) Next weekend we leave for our Glee Club tour which includes the National Cathedral in Washington, DC! I'm enjoying Smith but I miss Wes and all it has to offer. There isn't a lot going on here. I had something to say, and actual sentence, but now that I've actually started to write I've forgotten it. I have to get ready to leave anyway...

Of Cars and Hair

So, June apparently flew by. I did lots of hanging out and washing dishes and reading and writing and running. And then I had an allergic reaction to this stuff I was using and I ended up with this painful rash...so then I did a lot more hanging out and more watching of movies and stuff. Then we had our window's painted and I helped out the painter a little bit by opening and closing the windows at need. Then I got tested for allergies up at Dartmouth and it turns out that I'm allergic to nickel, among other things...that would be why my ears puff up and itch when I wear this certain pair of earrings. Then my friend Sarah came to visit for a week! And that was a lot of fun, showing her around, hanging out and seeing my home friends. On the way to the fireworks, as most of you know, my brakes died at the top of Laurel's hill and I had to get my dad to come drive it to the dealership. While Sarah was here we also recorded a short (20 min) CD with my dad of the two of us singing songs we know from school! It was fun! Then she left, I got my car back...and my allergic reaction is coming back. I randomly decided at 1 in the morning the other day to cut my hair because it was bothering me and I didn't want to be afraid of change. Plus, someone else could use my hair more than I could too. So then last night my mom cut it, with Laurel supervising...and it looks nice and I REALLY like it! My hair swishes now! It hasn't been this short since 5th and 6th grade!!! And now I'm working for our friend and neighbor working in her garden...and so I did that for a few hours today. It was fun to be outside! That is all.

Going to Boston

Well, we're off to Ashley's this evening!!! It sound be an interesting trip (and by this I mean the actual squishing of all of us plus our stuff into one Katie's mom's van.) It will also be lots of fun, and probably no less crazy once we actually get there! Hopefully we'll all still be talking to each other, or we'll all just have to talk to Ashley and Alex and ignore everyone else. No, it should be fine! Five of us went on a Maine trip and lived to tell the tale (though there was the incident in which we drove across the same bridge twice...but it just added to the excitement, so it was alright.) Anyway... Jess has made mix-CD's to listen to, so that should make the trip more interesting, even if they simply inspire discussion...I mean argumentation... over which songs are good and which aren't. We shall see. I'm very glad, very glad indeed, that I bought a whole package of new camera batteries, so I will probably be taking pictures from the moment we set off! YAY! I have to go pack now!

I can see most of my floor...

...at least, more than half of it. This means that I can lie down on my carpet without first looking to see what box or bag my feet are going to run into. I'm not a tall person, but there was only one path, and hence only one way to lie down previously. Now my feet do not have to be in the West, they could be North, or even placed in a Southerly direction! This matters greatly for someone who spends most of her time on her floor when in her room. I am afraid, though, that the rest of my school things will not be put away now that they are not in my way. There's no incentive for me to find space that currently does not exist in which to shove them. Ah, well.

Teddy has actually been hanging out with me a lot. For the first time in what might have been a year, he has been sleeping on my feet at night and I wake up and he's still there. I'm not used to sharing my bed at this point, so I'm afraid he's gotten kicked a little here and there, as I try to roll over and my foot ends up on top of a cat! Tiger also has been purring a lot and seems glad to see me. He only tolerates us so much, but he's been very tolerant, actually enjoying our company!!

For some reason I have only been home for a little less than a week and I still feel the need to have my whole summer planned. I need to get writing. And I need to figure out which books that I've been meaning to read I should try to read now! OK...I think I'll go try to be productive now. This means that I'll go for a run, organize some more things, try to write...

Last Night At Wes

It felt so strange to walk one last time down Wyllys Avenue from my dorm to my professors' offices to drop off my paper and take home. I wasn't sure whether to be really happy, or really sad! It's now my last night here. Some people are still doing finals, most are done. Some of my friends are playing drinking games. It's been really sunny and warm today. There's a huge heap of stuff that I've already kind of packed in the middle of my room but I lack the ambition to pack it all tonight. There isn't anything I really want to do around, and I woke up at 6am, so I really should just go to bed...but I want to see if other people come home and I can see them tonight. Nadeem has a test tomorrow and I don't think I'll see him before I leave...so we had a good bye hug...and later I almost felt like I could really cry. I don't want to leave this place! Whether or not I like Wes or Smith better, I've had such a good year here and it's hard to leave! I do love Smith, yet last year seemed to drag on forever, and this year went by too quickly!! I'm like a senior in that I'm leaving here, I won't be here as a student next year. But, at least I'm not preparing to enter the real world!!! I feel like I had good things to say, when I thought to post earlier today, but since then my brain has turned off, my thinking going down hill, and I have nothing important to add...ok...going off to entertain myself for longer...

YAY Spring!!!

It was one of those amazing days when the sun shines and it's nice and warm out, but not too too too warm and everyone comes out for the first time after the winter!!! Foss Hill was covered in people: hanging out, doing work, smoking various things, playing instruments, just talking, playing soccer and Frisbee and baseball!!! After class I went to the Health Center to make sure my sore throat wasn't a strep throat (probably not, but after how sick I got in February I wanted to make sure) and then I went off to the library, freaked out that if I didn't get my act together and explore the stacks of Olin Library that I wouldn't get my paper finished in time. What if I hadn't felt better today and then couldn't enjoy this weekend, which has lots of things going on and had this paper to write but then was too sick to write it? So I walked around the people sitting on the Hill and disappeared into the library for two hours. It was nice and cool and quiet in the stacks, but there actually were other people sitting around at the big tables on the first floor doing work! I wasn't the only crazy one! Then I carried my bag of books, plus some in my arms, back across the Hill to my dorm, feeling Oh so cool (not) as I carried my books instead of sitting around being cool and doing nothing. Oh well! I had a nice flowy skirt on and I felt like a traditional Co-ed, walking around past the boys who played ball out on the field, with my books in my arms!! It's just so strange to see so many people who you don't know! During the winter you forget just how many other students live in close proximity to you, until you all come out of hibernation!!! The campus is alive again!! (Not that it wasn't when we were all out sledding on the hill.) But there's something about SPRING!!!
